PT 743 - Psychosocial Aspects of Disability for PT2 cr. A comprehensive look at the psychosocial components of physical disabilities. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding the psychosocial, behavioral, emotional, cultural, and cognitive influences affecting rehabilitation outcomes. Selected physical conditions will be examined. Concepts regarding life stage development; stages of adjustment; strategies for intervention; sexuality; family adjustment; and terminal illness will be examined. The impact of societal and cultural beliefs and values about the disabled will be discussed. Case presentations will supplement didactic material. Three hours lecture/week.
