Business Communication courses focus on both persuasive communication techniques and the use of graphics and visual presentations software to create highly professional presentations. Faculty focus on developing strong oral presentation skills in all Business Communication classes. Students in this major will also complete three levels of writing courses that teach the foundations of effective writing up to complex memoranda and transactional documents. Additionally, students will receive a strong foundation of coursework in a broad range of communication strategies and theories to develop enhanced team-building and leadership skills necessary in a modern professional environment. Courses will include content exploring the importance of effective intercultural communication, the development of interpersonal skills, social media, and the role of media and technology in the modern marketplace.

Business Communication Curriculum
1The Department of Communication prefers students fulfill (FYW) requirements by completing COMM 108 . However WRTG 107 or WRTG 105 and WRTG 106 may be substituted.
2The selection of a First Year Seminar is likely to fulfill requirements both for the First Year Seminar and a General Education Requirement. Talk with your advisor if you have any questions.
- Business Communication students are recommended to consider using 36 free elective credits toward a double major option within the Communication & Media program or Business School, such as Marketing, or consider the 21 credit Business minor.
- As well as required courses, Business Communication students enroll for 6 credits from among the following electives:
*The Communication Department recommends INTD 112 a 3-credits EP foundation course satisfying both oral and digital competencies EP-I. Other FYOC/FYDT courses may satisfy this requirement.
