Students enrolled in the Reading Education program must hold a valid instructional certificate in another area or provide evidence that an application has been submitted documenting that all certificate requirements for another area have been met. Students may pursue either a Master of Arts degree or a Master of Science degree; or to the Reading Specialist certification without degree. The Master of Arts degree requires 30 credits in course work and a 6 credit thesis. The Master of Science degree requires 36 credits in course work. The program of study for the MS or MA degrees is listed in Option 1a. The program of study for students pursuing only the Reading Specialist certification is listed in Option 1b, which includes 24 credits of course work.
Below are the programs of study for the two options and can be used as a reference and guide for those students who are already enrolled in the program. All students pursuing a Master’s degree must pass a capstone experience/ comprehensive examination.
