Accelerated M.S.N. Degree

An Accelerated Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) option is available for registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing from a NLNAC accredited program and for outstanding undergraduate nursing majors. This option is designed for students who wish to pursue specialty preparation at the master’s level. With the accelerated program, 12 graduate credits may satisfy 12 undergraduate credit requirements. Specifically, the recommended course substitutions for the registered nurse student are: (1) Undergraduate NURS 493 Research in Nursing (three credits) requirement may be satisfied by graduate NURS 593 Research Methodology (three credits); (2) Undergraduate nursing or free elective courses may be satisfied by graduate NURS 510 - Advanced Physiology and Pathophysiology (three credits), or graduate NURS 520 - Advanced Pharmacology (three credits), or graduate NURS 591 - Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing (three credits) or graduate NURS 595 - Nursing Ethics (three credits). Traditional undergraduate nursing majors and students who are licensed practical nurses should meet with their advisor/mentor regarding recommended course substitutions for the accelerated program. Registered nurse students and students who are licensed practical nurses must complete NURS 241 and NURS 242 prior to application to the accelerated option. To apply to the accelerated option, the student must complete the application for graduate admission to the CGCE accompanied by the Accelerated Master’s Degree Program form (refer to Admission and Registration ). Upon acceptance into the accelerated program, all policies and procedures of the CGCE apply. Applicants are accepted in the fall and spring of each year.
