The Biomathematics major leads to employment or graduate study ranging from biostatistics through public health to medicine. The major contains four tracks: Epidemiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, or Population Biology. Students interested in medical school should alter the standard schedule so that General Biochemistry can be elected in the third year. This may be done by attending summer sessions, by using AP credits, or – when approved by an academic advisor – by shifting General and Analytical Chemistry to the first year and Organic Chemistry to the second year.

Biomathematics Curriculum
1Biology electives must all come from one track. In the fall of the second year students must take the following 5-credit courses: Epidemiology Track: BIOL 371 (W:Lab only) ; Molecular Biology Track: BIOL 361 ; Physiology Track: BIOL 349 ; Population Biology Track: BIOL 371 (W:Lab only) . The remaining two courses may be selected from the following in the fourth year: Epidemiology Track: BIOL 250 , BIOL 260 , or BIOL 344 ; Molecular Biology Track: BIOL 260 or BIOL 362 ; Physiology Track: BIOL 245 , BIOL 345 , BIOL 347 , BIOL 348 or BIOL 446 . Population Biology Track: BIOL 370 , BIOL 375 or BIOL 472 .
2The selection of a First Year Seminar is likely to fulfill requirements both for the First Year Seminar and a General Education Requirement. Thus, the First Year Seminar will not add to the total credits for the semester. Talk with your advisor if you have any questions. |
