IMPORTANT NOTE:

After December 2012, PDE initial certifications in the Elementary Education program, as detailed below, will no longer exist.  The program of study below is to be used as a reference and guide for those students currently enrolled in the existing Elementary Education program.

New applications are not being accepted into the Elementary Education program for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Students enrolled in the existing Elementary Education program are in one of two options. Option 1 is for students who already hold a valid instructional certificate in another area. Option 2 is for students who do not hold an instructional certificate. Students in the program may pursue a Master of Science degree. For option 1, the degree requires 36 credits in course work. For option 2, the degree requires 44 credits in course work.

Below is the program of study for the two options that can be used as a reference and guide for those students who are already enrolled in the program. All students who are pursuing a Master’s degree must complete the research and foundation course requirements and pass a comprehensive examination.
