Overview

Engineering is the profession in which knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience and practice is judiciously applied to create, apply, and manage new technologies.  We offer Bachelor of Science degree programs in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Electronic Business. Our two-year Pre-Engineering transfer program offers a foundation in liberal arts, mathematics and physical sciences essential for success in many other fields of engineering.

Overview

Physics is the study of our universe, from atoms to galaxies, from quarks to baseballs.  Physics covers fields as diverse as astrophysics, which tells us about the structure of stars, to condensed matter physics, which tells how silicon chips work.  The approach of the physicist, based as it is on the analysis of mathematical models dealing with matter and energy and their interactions, supplies a unique and important insight to the solution of problems in many disciplines.  The Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering offers majors in Physics and Biophysics, as well as the Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Electronics-Business majors described earlier. The primary goal of the Physics and Electrical Engineering Department, to train students to be physicists and engineers, is achieved by: (1) offering courses which present the theories, facts, and models of the physical world that are the foundations of modern physics and engineering: (2) providing a curriculum where students are immersed in doing physics and being engineers through active participation in projects and research, and through laboratory courses. The faculty expertise covers a diverse range of topics including astrophysics, acoustics, optics, photonics, medical physics and nuclear theory.
