ARTH 215 - Renaissance Art in Italy, 1480-1620

3 cr.
This course continues with a survey of art and society in Italy, 1480-1620. The papacy, during the 15th century, brings Michelangelo and Raphael to Rome, which remains a cultural capital for artists through the 17th century. Artists working in 16th century Florence, in the wake of Michelangelo, introduce a style that flourishes brightly, but briefly: Mannerism.  A field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art is included.
