ESEC 506 - Modern Algebra for Teachers3 cr. A treatment of groups, rings, etc., culminating in the negative result, Abel’s Theorem, that there can be no formula for solving polynomial equations of degree greater than four. Whenever possible, the material shall be related to the various subsets of the real number system covered in the secondary schools.
