Overview

Biology coursework is designed to achieve two overriding objectives: (1) To present the fundamental scientific facts and concepts needed for an understanding of the living world and people’s relation to it; (2) To prepare students for advanced study or employment in the biological sciences.  The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology provides pre-professional preparation that meets the requirements and recommendations of professional schools, including schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry and podiatry.  It also prepares students for graduate work in biology and related fields.

In keeping with the evolution of the field of biology, the Department of Biology has adopted a more integrated, interdisciplinary approach to its curriculum.  We take great pride in getting our students excited about the field by fostering their collaboration with students and faculty in other science majors, providing them with a strong foundation in many specialties, and helping them pursue their own individual interests.
