Harold W. Baillie, Ph.D., is the provost and vice president for academic affairs and a professor of philosophy. He has been a visiting professor at a variety of international universities, including the University of Trnava, Slovakia, the State Medical University in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, and Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing, China. Domestically, he has been a visiting professor at the Yale University School of Medicine, and Ashland University. He is a co-author of the book “Health Care Ethics: Principles and Problems,” and co-editor, and contributing author, of “Is Human Nature Obsolete? Genetics, Bioengineering and the Human Condition,” from The MIT Press. He has authored articles on subjects ranging from healthcare ethics to metaphysics and political philosophy, and currently works as a medical ethics consultant with several local healthcare facilities. He received his A.B. from Yale University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Boston College.

Vincent Carilli, Ph.D., has served the University since 2001 as the vice president for student affairs. In this role, Dr. Carilli is responsible for the overall management of the Division of Student Affairs, which includes: Career Services, Counseling Center, Center for Health Education and Wellness, Center for Student Engagement, Dean of Students, Multicultural Affairs, Off Campus and Commuter Student Affairs, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Conduct and Assessment, Student Government, Student Health Services, Public Safety and the Women’s Center. In his work as the vice president for student affairs, he is responsible for the management of all budgets, personnel, tactical planning, and assessment within the division. Dr. Carilli also serves as the chairperson of the University’s Incident Management Team, and holds memberships on the President’s Cabinet, Financial Management Committee, Admissions, Residence Life & Financial Aid Committee, Campus Development Council, Campus Facilities Committee, and the Business Continuity Task Force. He also serves as the chief liaison to the Board of Trustees’ Campus Community Committee. Dr. Carilli earned his Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, his Master of Education in student affairs administration from Kutztown University, and his Bachelor of Science in secondary education-biology from East Stroudsburg University.

Robert W. Davis, Jr., was appointed chief of staff in 2011. In this role, he manages the essential administrative functions of the Office of the President and is responsible to the University president for a broad set of assignments related to the duties of the president including but not limited to direction and management of the president’s agenda and priorities. This includes special projects assigned by the president. In 2012, Davis assumed the role of interim vice president for development and alumni relations, overseeing development, the President’s Business Council, alumni relations, parent relations & class affinity, and conference & event services.
Davis joined The University of Scranton in 2006 and has served in various capacities across campus. His previous roles include area coordinator and assistant director for housing operations in the Office of Residence Life. Most recently in the division of University Relations, Davis was assistant director and then drector of the Pride, Passion, Promise Campaign that raised $129 million to support scholarships and capital projects at Scranton. Prior to joining the University, Davis was a volunteer in the Alumni Service Corps at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in biology and philosophy in 2003 and a Master of Science in biochemistry in 2010, both from The University of Scranton.

Tricia Day, J.D., is a labor and employment lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in labor relations and human resources. She has held strategic leadership positions and played major roles in policy development and implementation. As vice president for human resources she serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and is responsible for all aspects of human resources including compensation, benefits, employee relations, recruitment, hiring and retention, training, organizational development and performance management. Prior to joining the University, she served as a consultant on labor relations and employment issues and held chief labor relations officer positions at the transit authorities in Boston and Philadelphia and at the Massachusetts Port Authority.

Jerome DeSanto, Ed.D., has served as the vice president for planning and chief information officer since 2004. In this role DeSanto is responsible for two main functional areas. In the planning realm he oversees institutional planning, governance, effectiveness, policy work, and accreditation. In the information technology (IT) area he has broad responsibilities for a highly centralized IT function that includes the campus network, data center, information security, IT services, institutional research, and the full range of institutional information assets. In his 30-plus year career at the University, DeSanto has served on, led or chaired numerous boards and committees including the Campus School Board and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute Board. He also has taught management courses as an adjunct professor in the University’s Kania School of Management for the past 20 years. Additionally, DeSanto has done extensive IT consulting in the both the public and private sectors.

A 20-year Pennsylvania practitioner, Rob Farrell, J.D., spent a decade in private practice of the law with a concentration on civil matters, primarily corporate and municipal. Following private practice, he worked as the city solicitor for the city of Scranton responsible for the legal representation of the City and management of its law department and a staff of three lawyers. He joined The University of Scranton in January of 2008, serving in several roles in the President’s Office before becoming general counsel in the summer of 2010.
The Office of the General Counsel serves as legal counsel to the University. Its focus is the protection of the corporation and its legal interests ranging from litigation and contracts to intellectual property and employment issues. Principal in its function are issues related to compliance at both the state and federal level. The office provides services to all divisions of the University.

Prior to being named the founding executive director of The Jesuit Center at Scranton, Ryan Maher, S.J., was associate dean of Georgetown College, the undergraduate school of arts and sciences at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He was also a professorial lecturer in theology and Catholic studies at Georgetown University. He previously served as the director of Catholic studies and was the founding faculty member of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service campus in Doha, Qatar. In the Middle East, he taught theology to the school’s predominantly Muslim student body. He previously worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant to Sen. Jeff Bingaman, and as a teacher at Gonzaga College High School, Washington, D.C., and St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Philadelphia. Fr. Maher entered the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus in 1986 and was ordained a priest in 1997.

Richard G. Malloy, S.J., from Philadelphia, went to St. Joseph’s Prep. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, and then entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Wernersville. While in Jesuit formation, he spent two years teaching high school in Osorno, Chile, and one year in pastoral work in Santiago. He earned a B.A. in philosophy, summa cum laude, from Saint Louis University, and the M.Div. and S.T.L. degrees from Weston School of Theology. His S.T.L. thesis was entitled, “Lonergan and Sobrino: Theologians for the Americas and Beyond.” He earned a doctorate in cultural anthropology from Temple University, Philadelphia. His dissertation was an ethnographic study of Puerto Rican leaders in Camden, N.J. His book, “A Faith That Frees: Catholic Matters for the 21st Century” (Orbis Books 2008), examines the relationships between the practices of faith and the cultural currents and changes so rapidly occurring in our ever more technologized and globalized world. The Catholic Press association recognized the book with a “Best Presentation of the Catholic Faith” award. In September 2010, he was missioned to The University of Scranton where he serves as the vice president of mission and ministry, working with campus ministry, community outreach, service learning and international service trips.

Edward J. Steinmetz, Jr., was named vice president for finance/treasurer in 2008. He joined the University in 1991 to develop the internal audit function and served as The University of Scranton’s first internal auditor. Steinmetz was promoted to assistant vice president for finance in 1993, and was named associate vice president for finance in 2002. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree from The University of Scranton, and became a certified public accountant in 1982. Prior to joining the University, he worked for 10 years in public and private accounting positions. Steinmetz was co-chair of the steering committee for The University of Scranton’s last Self-Study Report for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. He also serves on various other committees, including the President’s Cabinet, University Planning Committee, Financial Management Committee and the Committee on University Image and Promotion. He is a resource member for a number of the Board of Trustee committees. He has delivered presentations at various technology and professional business and finance association meetings. In addition, Steinmetz has been a member of Pennsylvania Department of Education teams that evaluate proposed status changes for other educational institutions in the Commonwealth. He is an active member of the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers.

Gerry Zaboski serves as the vice president for external affairs at The University of Scranton with divisional responsibility for public relations, marketing, community relations, undergraduate admissions and the University’s Small Business Development Center. From 2008 - 2012, Zaboski served as vice president for alumni and public relations. He has worked at Scranton since 1988 in various positions, including executive assistant to the president, a post he held for eight years, and director of public relations. Prior to joining the University, he worked as public information manager for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. He serves as secretary on the Executive Committee of the Jesuit Advancement Administrators (JAA), on the Communications Advisory Council of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, on the board and executive committee as First Vice President of the Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency, and as treasurer of the West Wyoming Hose Company #1. He is a past member of the board of the National Association of Presidential Assistants in Higher Education and a past president of the Scranton Lions Club. Gerry earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from The University of Scranton.
